How much worse can it get?

Article Abstract:

UK political authority is disintegrating as ministers resign and allegations of corruption abound. Politicians are not taken seriously as political authority is reducing in most democracies. The poor economy and the government's small majority make the problems seem prominent. Labour deputy leader Margaret Beckett accused the government of betraying democracy. The government accused the Opposition of trying to undermine the political system. Problems cannot be blamed on the previous government as the same party has been in power for so long.

The Siberia pact is a chilling omen for Hague

Article Abstract:

The agreement between UK Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown and Prime Minister Tony Blair to create a joint cabinet committee made up of six members of the Labour party and five Liberal Democrats may not appear particularly significant. However, it could in fact have very serious repercussions for the Conservative party. If this party continues to stick to its anti-European line, it could find itself becoming little more than a dissenting faction.

They dream dangerously of escape

Article Abstract:

Many Conservative MPs are now very concerned about the lack of unity in the party and about the inability of John Major to come across as a strong leader. They now long to be released from this traumatic period, emerging into a new political landscape. However, the current leadership battle is only likely to cause further disunity in the party, and it may soon face a time in opposition.
