How working for nothing can pay off

Article Abstract:

Shadowing and voluntary work can provide graduates with skills and experience which are valuable to prospective employers. It is also better for retaining confidence than being unemployed. Work experience does not lead to paid work within the same firm, but offers practice in working in a team, communication and problem-solving. Volunteers should ask companies whether they have any projects which they could do unpaid. The government Graduate Gateway scheme offers work placements.
