However much he'd like to, Paddy can't come to Tony's party

Article Abstract:

There are indications that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is considering appointing Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown and his senior colleagues to the Cabinet. He is prepared to take risks with his approach to governing the country, even though he is very cautious on matters of policy, and has already shown himself to be willing to challenge his senior Cabinet colleagues. However, Ashdown would be placed in a difficult position if he were invited to join the Cabinet. He would have to hold lengthy negotiations with members of his party, and this would deter Blair from asking him.

Rotherham man takes dim view of Hague

Article Abstract:

There is very little support for UK Conservative party leader William Hague in Rotherham, England, even though he grew up in the town. Dennis McShane, the town's Labour MP, has a majority of 21,500, and 65 out of 66 councillors are Labour. Support for the Conservative party has waned in the town since the 1970s as traditional industries have been closed down and unemployment has risen to among the highest in the UK. The town has a strong tradition of supporting Labour, and traditions are very slow to change there.

Mr Hague is doing rather better than his party

Article Abstract:

UK Conservative party leader William Hague has suffered from being associated with unpopular policies. He is actually a very competent politician, but the policy of lower taxes no longer appeals to voters.
