I don't believe it!

Article Abstract:

Comedian Tony Hancock, who would have been 75 on May 12, 1999, captured the unsettled mood of the UK in the era after the second world war. He became the most popular and wealthiest comedian of his time, but exploited his own disappointments to produce humour. This approach eventually overwhelmed him. He constantly battled against the fact that he was dependent on lines written by others, and he suffered from the fact that he lacked an identity separate from his most famous character.

Dated? Dan? Don't be so desperately dim

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common in modern society for considerable emphasis to be placed on the concept of relevance. Anybody or anything suspected of being no longer relevant to modern concerns is automatically rejected. No consideration is given to whether being relevant is necessarily important or not. Most recently, this trend has been seen in the decision by The Dandy comic to abandon the cartoon character Desperate Dan, who has featured in the comic since the 1930s.
