'I found Discworld in High Wycombe.' (author Terry Pratchett)(Revelations)

Article Abstract:

Author Terry Pratchett soon discovered that he had a talent for journalism when he joined the Bucks Free Press in 1967 at the age of 17. He was able to develop a formula for all the main types of story, and welcomed the fact that he had found something he was good at. He feels that there is probably a link between Discworld, the setting for his books, and High Wycombe, England, where he was living at that time. He feels that he is possibly still reporting on the real world through Discworld.

'When I read books I certainly don't read for the plot. I read for language. I read for those sentences I try to make. A little bit of tension goes a long way.' (novelist Carol Shields)(Interview)

Article Abstract:

Novelist Carol Shields, who was born in the US and now lives in Canada, recently won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel 'The Stone Diaries.' She sees herself as a silent observer, but her growing popularity is leading her to take a more active role. She is now travelling much more, and books which she wrote many years ago are being revived. She has produced a number of collections of poetry, and has also written a film script.

'Bookers? Not for the loikes of oi.' Criticism doesn't hurt fantasy novelist Terry Pratchett, or his six million adoring fans

Article Abstract:

Terry Pratchett's 17 novels about the 'Discworld' fantasy zone have made him extremely popular, with six million copies having been sold. He tours for more than a month in any year, and signs many copies of his books. However, he has never won any literary prizes, and does not want to. He prefers not to be associated with the highbrow element of literary culture, and works in the way which suits him best.
