I want my children to be educated, not just examined

Article Abstract:

The British government is focusing too much on examinations in a bid to raise standards and attract more children into public sector schools. This approach is misguided. Public sector schools that are not selective cannot easily compete against the private sector in terms of examination successes. Social deprivation, rather than quality of teaching, affects exam results. All children should be able to benefit from education, not just those children who can pass exams. Failure in exams can be demoralising, especially if exams are taken early. Children chould have a wide range of experience and a varied curriculum in order to benefit from their education.

The conservative enemy has to be defeated: Britain's future is in Europe

Article Abstract:

It is vital that ordinary Britons are made aware of the advantages of the UK being a committed member of the European Union. It is clear that Europe is where the UK does business and where its future lies. Renegotiating the UK's membership of the European Union, or even leaving the European Union altogether, would be contrary to the UK's interests. There is a strong argument for reform within the European Union, but this must not be confused with the case for withdrawal.
