I was once told I looked like Rudyard Kipling. Now it's personal
Article Abstract:
Actor David Haig's work on a play about Rudyard Kipling was significantly affected by his experience of the still birth of his daughter in 1996. He began writing the play simply because he wanted to play the part of Kipling, having been told that he bore a very close physical resemblance to Kipling. After the still birth of his daughter, the play took on a much deeper, more personal meaning. He even included a scene between Kipling and his wife which was directly inspired by a conversation with his own wife shortly after the loss of their daughter.

'My mother thought Shakespeare sent me mad.' (actor David Harewood)(Revelations)
Article Abstract:
Being black can be extremely hard for an actor, according to actor David Harewood. He went into acting simply because no other career appealed to him, and initially he found acting fun. However, he gradually began to realize that being black would create significant problems. He attracted a lot of hatred because he was black and successful, and this prompted him to have a nervous breakdown. He is now determined to confront attitudes that imply that white actors are superior to black actors.

In the morning light I saw Africa in my soul
Article Abstract:
Actor Antony Sher feels uncomfortable about his identity as a white South African, and has felt very tempted to state that he is not from anywhere. He settled down very well when he came to London, England, in 1968, and rarely returned home. However, he went on holiday to Kenya in 1988. On this holiday, he began to identify with Africa, and has now come to love African culture. Recognizing his African origins has also been part of his reconciliation with his parents.
