Imams strive to stay out of Kosovo's war

Article Abstract:

Muslim leaders in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, claim that they regard the struggle for the region as a national one based on history. They do not see it as a religious war, and will not encourage Albanians to turn against their Christian, Orthodox neighbours. The Muslim religious authorities are clearly aware of the atrocities that have been committed, but are determined that Islam must not become part of Albanian politics. They emphasize that they are independent from the Arab Muslim world.

Strange case of 'Mossad agents.'

Article Abstract:

The trial is taking place in Larnaca, Cyprus, of Udi Hargov and Igal Damary, who are accused of spying on Greek Cypriot military installations. It is alleged that the two men were professional secret agents for Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service. They rented a flat very close to a Greek Cypriot National Guard camp which could be a location for the Russian S-300 missiles that Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides still wishes to bring to the island in 1998.

Iran's first daughter of the veil

Article Abstract:

Islamic law must be respected in all areas of Iranian society, according to Zahra Mustafavi, daughter of Ayatollah Khomeini and leader of all Iranian women's groups. It is important to study Islamic law thoroughly before passing judgement on Islamic beliefs, and issues such as the role of women in Iranian society must be judged only from a well-informed basis. In fact, women are often more supressed in western countries than in Iran.
