In 13 million years, it's our turn

Article Abstract:

Dr Robert Bakker and John Ostrom research vertebrate paleontology to explain the fossil record, investigating posture, metabolism and extinction. Some believe extinction was a gradual process due to habitat loss and others believe a disaster such as a meteorite or volcanic activity killed the dinosaurs. Five major extinctions at 26 million-year intervals have occurred, the last one being about 13 million-years ago. Dr Angela Milner of the British National History Museum describes the discovery of baryonyx in Surrey as an important development. The museum opens a 2.5 million pounds sterling exhibition on Apr 15 1992.

Sweetwater reaps its bitter harvest

Article Abstract:

The black squatter camp of Sweetwater, situated south of Johannesburg, is one of many places in South Africa where ordinary black people had great expectations of life after the abolition of apartheid. However, its residents are now very disillusioned. They have not received the houses which they were promised, and most of them are still unemployed. They live in squalid conditions, and are still very poor.
