In 400 years, we have had our ups and downs

Article Abstract:

There have been considerable fluctuations in relations between the UK and Japan since the first Briton arrived in Japan in 1600. Japan had a policy of seclusion from the early part of the 17th century to the middle of the 19th century. The US played the leading role in the opening up of Japan in the 1850s, but the UK was quick to establish trading links with Japan. There has been extensive political, cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries over recent years, but further efforts need to be made to increase cultural understanding.

America must understand why the Third World still distrusts its power

Article Abstract:

Many people in the developing world regard the US as a hypocritical country which emphasizes democracy within domestic politics but destabilizes other countries. Both the US and the UK are wrong to impose their form of instant justice on Afghanistan in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.
