In droves they seek their identity

Article Abstract:

The 1891 census has been available since Jan 02 92, causing enormous public interest and pressure on the Public Record Office (PRO). Queues have built up not only at the PRO for this new source of information, but also at St Catherine's House for birth, marriage and death certificates and Somerset House for copies of wills. Modern isolation has turned the British into a nation of genealogy enthusiasts hoping to find their roots. The other main user of genealogical resources is the Church of Latter-Day Saints who research family to baptise them by proxy.

From grief and fear to over here

Article Abstract:

Ugandan Asian refugees who arrived in Britain in 1972 rebuilt their lives through hard work. They took jobs unwanted by anyone else or opened their own shops and businesses. They worked long hours and employed family members. The Asians have a tradition of family discipline, saving and work-ethic. Twenty years later many of these immigrants have recreated the wealth they were used to. Families pool their resources and look after their elderly; their religion makes them dutiful and responsible citizens.

Scarborough: postcards from the edge

Article Abstract:

Holbeck Hall Hotel, Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, was an elegant four-star hotel until the cliff it stood on crumbled away. The cliffs around Britain have been crumbling for hundreds of years. Holbeck Hall Hotel, set in 300 ft of grounds, was photographed by many tourists as it collapsed. Scarborough Bay is beautiful when the weather is good, but most families in the 1990s holiday abroad, self-catering. Scarborough's guest-houses are filled with senior citizens on bargain breaks.
