In no hurry to get a job

Article Abstract:

Most final-year university students do not expect to start graduate employment straight after completing their degree, according to a survey produced by High Fliers Research. The results of this survey indicate that around a third of finalists are likely to take graduate work eventually. Many students feel that there is no urgency about securing employment, and tend to focus only on short-term targets. They may consider postgraduate study, taking time off to travel or taking temporary work.

Public auditor, private investigator

Article Abstract:

Private-sector auditors can learn a lot from their counterparts in the public sector, according to a report from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (Cipfa). Public-sector accountancy still has some failings, but it has been very successful in undertaking financial checks on spending. In contrast, it is very rare for auditors in the private sector to expose fraud, and the profession has recently gained a very negative image.

Crossing the borders

Article Abstract:

Top accounting firms are increasingly acknowledging the potential for moving into legal work. This is reflected in the recent decision by Price Waterhouse to set up an associated law practice. They have already been moving into merchant banking and corporate finance, so expanding into legal services fits in well with this pattern. Some observers believe that accounting firms are looking to be seen once again as the main business adviser.
