In the shadows of the new city of light

Article Abstract:

The theatre is a key element of life in Moscow, Russia, and the city makes considerable efforts to celebrate the work of playwrights, actors and directors, despite the unstable political and social situation. Moscow is now seen as the centre of theatrical life in Russia, while St Petersburg, originally intended to be the country's showcase city, is facing violence and decay. The theatre in Moscow is in some ways in suspended animation, with playwrights being uncertain how to address the new challenges of Russian life.

In Govan, you know they've got you covered

Article Abstract:

Govan has changed from Glasgow's highest crime rate to a model for crime reduction methods. The council started an initiative to regenerate the local economy. The link between crime and unemployment led to encouraging firms to move into Govan. Architects designed anti-crime buildings. Corporate attitudes meant quick decisions. Development was linked to the market place, business grants and private housing.

Is Russia ready to rave?

Article Abstract:

Moscow's night clubs tend to have a very different atmosphere from their western counterparts. Dance floors are large and uncrowded, and the music is not very loud. People who take drugs do not flaunt the fact, as they would in the west, and any sort of clothing seems to be acceptable. The clubs attract people of all ages, and they are prepared to queue for a long time to gain entry.
