Ineko Sata

Article Abstract:

Japanese writer Ineko Sata pioneered women's liberation in Japan and was widely acclaimed as a woman of principles. Sata did not achieve academic success and initially worked in factories and as a waitress, which later inspired some of her stories. She attended literary meeting places and became friends with leading writers such as Akutagawa Ryunoauke and later Yasunari Kawabata who applauded her realistic style of story-telling. Sata was politically active, campaigning for better working conditions for factory girls. She died on October 12 1998.
