Irish isles are smiling

Article Abstract:

Tourism is regarded as a key way of sustaining the economy of the three Aran Islands, which are located across Galway Bay. The resident population of these islands continues to fall, but tourist numbers are rising. Kilronan, situated on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands, attracts around 2,000 visitors a day at the height of the tourist season, and islanders are now becoming increasingly involved in activities related to tourism, such as running cafes.

A hit squad to save Darwin's paradise isles

Article Abstract:

The Galapagos Islands, made up of 15 main islands and 106 smaller ones, have a unique ecosystem, and have therefore attracted scientists for many generations. However, their indigenous wildlife is now under great threat from non-native species. Many defenceless indigenous animals have been killed by rats, for example, and the giant land iguana, which had a very strong presence on the islands when Charles Darwin visited them in 1853, has died out completely.

Just call me Johnny, lord of the isles

Article Abstract:

The seventh Marquess of Bute recalls that he has never felt comfortable with inherited wealth. He emphasizes that he has always had a strong work ethic, and feels that going into motor-racing in the 1980s was his way of being successful in his own right. He regrets the fact that attention is beginning to focus on his oldest son, who is only nine, and remembers how he felt when he was in that situation.
