Is the new medium the message?

Article Abstract:

Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) technology unites film, music, still pictures, visual menus and text. There is likely to be considerable demand for this technology in Europe, where 250,000 DVD players have already been sold. However, there are currently very few musical or operatic DVDs. Some potential DVD purchasers may choose to wait until DVD-Audio arrives. It is possible that DVD technology may not become established at all unless prices fall.

Dissonant voices, still lives

Article Abstract:

Georgian male-voice choir M'tiebi, founded by the late ethnomusicologist Edisher Garakanidze, is currently touring in the UK. This choir is one example of the significant influence Edisher had on perceptions of Georgian music in the western world. Edisher inspired American Frank Kane to establish a Georgian choir in the US, for example, and also encouraged musicologist Helen Chadwick to become involved in collecting songs with him in Georgia.
