Italy struggles to shake off the legacy of Mussolini

Article Abstract:

Italy is divided by its fascist past and this is partly because of the way that fascism ended. The anti-fascist ideology that became dominant in Italy after 1945 meant that the issue of fascism has not been debated fully, while the worst aspects of fascism have are well remembered. The architecture of the fascist period is worthy of study, and fascism was also linked to the modernizationand economic development of Italy. It is difficult to study the period since many documents have been destroyed.

Scholars in a spin over Churchill link to the death of Mussolini

Article Abstract:

Mussolini was shot by the British secret services, not Italian partisans, according to historian Renzo De Felice in a new book. This was because Churchill feared that Mussolini could make some embarrassing revelations about pre-war links between the two men if he were captured and made to stand trial. Potentially embarrassing subjects could have included Churchill's offer of sovereignty over Dalmatia if Italy agreed not to enter the war.

Italy's rich city prays for fall of nation state

Article Abstract:

The city of Bologna, Italy, is flourishing, benefiting from a strong regional economy and efficient administration. Its citizens are greatly in favour of the European Union, as they feel that rule by the European Union would offer them greater opportunities for improving this situation even further. In contrast, further growth is currently being hampered by the inefficiency of the central government.
