It's simple, yet subtle

Article Abstract:

Those who are self-employed have different financial priorities from those who work for a single employer. It is vital for the self-employed to have permanent health insurance, providing a regular income if they are unable to work for a long time. The cost of this form of insurance can be reduced by choosing a longer period before the cover is activated. The self-employed should also consider critical illness insurance, although this can be expensive. Any mortgage arrangement needs to offer an element of security, as the income of self-employed people can be unpredictable.

In on the act

Article Abstract:

A young, self-employed person considering purchasing their own home must consider whether they will be able to secure a mortgage and begin saving for the costs related to purchasing a home, including the deposit. It may be necessary to opt for a 'Non Status' or 'Self-Certification' mortgage, for which most lenders will seek a commitment through a deposit put down on the house, usually 10% or more. It is important to remember that owning a home brings many additional costs compared with renting, so it is vital to draw up a budget.

Smart Alex seeks stability

Article Abstract:

Recent graduates may find that their income is relatively restricted, thus making it unfeasible for them to obtain a mortgage with a favourable rate of interest. However, it may be possible for a property to be purchased in the recent graduate's name with his or her parents acting as guarantors. It is advisable to limit the mortgage to 90% to avoid paying mortgage indemnity premium. It is important to consider life insurance and critical illness cover for the mortgage.
