I've seen the future and it makes me smoke

Anti-smoking sentiment has reached such extremes in California that smokers are made to feel guilty even if they smoke outside. It seems that their rights are being overlooked, with the open air now being regarded as belonging only to non-smokers. By taking this draconian approach, anti-smokers are actually making smoking appear more attractive, as it is associated with rebelling against society. The attitude of anti-smokers is making smoking active rather than passive and meaningful rather than meaningless.

Society is losing a civilising habit
Article Abstract:
The anti-smoking movement seems to be eliminating civility from UK society. Being forced to smoke in only a few designated places makes smokers more fervent in their commitment to smoking, while banning smoking elsewhere forces everybody else to become passive non-smokers.

Our biggest problems are not heroin, cocaine and cannabis

Illegitimacy, abortion and tobacco are the most significant social ill, moral danger and health problem facing the UK, not heroin, cocaine and marijuana. It is very difficult to use legislation to prohibit undesirable behaviour such as smoking.
