Muggers stalk the super-rich

Article Abstract:

Police in London, England, believe that a gang of muggers is operating in the richest areas of the city, looking out for people who have very expensive cars, jewellery or clothes. It is thought that up to 16 attacks have taken place since Jun 1996, with some of the targets possibly being identified while shopping at upmarket stores such as Harvey Nichols and Harrods. In a recent attack, Michael Green, the chairman of Carlton Communications, was stabbed and robbed of jewellery, cash and credit cards.

Just one, and no more than one, for the road

Article Abstract:

Doctors and anti-alcohol campaigners in the UK have for some time been calling on the government to introduce stricter legislation on drinking and driving. It is likely that their views will soon be supported by chief constables. Drink-driving was responsible for around 600 deaths in 1995, and even the government's own statistics indicate that reducing the limit to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood would save around 14 lives a year.
