John Brandon-Jones

Article Abstract:

Architect John Brandon-Jones became an assistant in the office of architect Oswald P. Milne at the age of 17. He entered the Architectural Association school in 1928, and subsequently worked with C. Cowles-Voysey. He taught at the Liverpool School of Architecture between 1937 and 1939, and during the second world war served under the Civil Engineer in Chief of the Admiralty. He was Senior Master at the Architectural Association between 1945 and 1949, but returned to Cowles-Voysey. He became most well known for his design for the Hampshire County Council Offices in Winchester, England, completed in 1959.

Robert Hening

Article Abstract:

Architect Robert Hening began his career as an articled pupil of architect Edmund Ware in Liverpool, England. He gained no formal qualifications, but showed a very strong understanding for modern architecture as a method of planning and building. He created a partnership with Anthony Chitty in 1937, and after the second world war was associated with a wide range of industrial, housing, commercial and educational projects. He rose to the challenges of post-war building, and used the Hertfordshire system of pre-fabrication for a number of schools.

Edward Mills

Article Abstract:

Architect Edward Mills began his career in 1930 at the age of 15. He became E. Maxwell Fry's first assistant in 1934, and undertook his first independent commission in 1937. He undertook architectural work during the second world war with pharmaceutical company May and Baker, and after the second world war re-established his practice in London, England. He wrote books on factory, office and church design.
