Article Abstract:

English Heritage hopes to persuade the UK government to pass legislation setting a maximum height of 100mt for new buildings in London, England. This seems to be a misguided approach, given that London expresses its strength and confidence in its tallest buildings. It would be better to consider each planned new building on its own merits, rather than to set a standard limit. It must be remembered that some of the worst buildings in the city are actually only one or two storeys high.

Give us greens with our gallery

Article Abstract:

Clear plans are now being developed for the transformation of Bankside power station in London, England, into the Tate Gallery of Modern Art. The team of architects involved with the scheme hope to produce a design which will stimulate all five senses, rather than just being attractive to the eye. They should therefore consider surrounding the actual building with a beautiful garden which would link it with surrounding industrial buildings.

Time to call off this camp pantomime

Article Abstract:

Paternoster Square was a very historical part of the centre of London, England, until it was destroyed by bombs in the second world war. Since the early 1960s, the area, which is situated near St Paul's cathedral, has been characterised by ugly office blocks. It is now time to seize the opportunity to restore the architectural vibrancy of the area, ensuring that it is not dominated by office blocks for ever.
