Lawmen armed and positively dangerous

Article Abstract:

Ordinary residents of Los Angeles, CA, have largely come to accept that officers of the Los Angeles Police Dept frequently use high levels of violence. However, recent revelations about police corruption by Rafael Perez, an officer convicted of armed robbery and drug-dealing, have attracted considerable controversy. These revelations have already led to 12 officers in the Rampart Division, in which Perez worked, being removed from duties. It is likely that other officers will confess and implicate colleagues in an attempt to reduce their sentence.

Pornography is a feminist issue

Article Abstract:

Pornography is beginning to establish itself as a subject for serious academic study. This field of study is dominated by women, and for this reason is sometimes known as pro-pornography feminism. To a certain degree, it is a reaction against the anti-pornography views of academic feminists such as Catherine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin. Those who advocate the serious study of pornography emphasize its social and political implications and the way in which it can change the language of academic discourse.

Berlusconi consolidates his rule over the Italian air waves

Article Abstract:

Former Italian prime minister Silvo Berlusconi is able to use his extensive power in the broadcasting industry to put across his political views and to ensure that key jobs are filled by his supporters. Many observers now believe that he will use all means at his disposal to secure his political future, even though no date has yet been announced for the country's next general elections. His opponents are now trying to raise public awareness, and are calling for proper anti-trust legislation in the media.
