Less show, more business

Article Abstract:

Marketing plays a significant role in the success of West End and Broadway musicals. Many different methods are used to sell tickets, including offering incentives for group bookings, which in the US can account for between 25% and 35% of capacity. Group bookings allow tickets to be sold a long time in advance, which means that investors are less nervous about obtaining a return on their money. Taking bookings well in advance also creates an impetus, ensuring that tickets are sold more quickly than they would otherwise have been.

Making drama out of a crisis

Article Abstract:

Touring theatre company Out of Joint has gained a strong reputation for commissioning and touring new plays. The plays it has staged have won 13 of the 20 awards for which they have been nominated, and its turnover is now approaching 1 million pounds sterling a year. However, its future is uncertain, mainly because of problems with obtaining funding. The challenging nature of its plays makes it hard to obtain corporate funding, and it has been unable to get any money from the National Lottery.
