Life as an undercover cop: you're always one slip away from death or a breakdown

Article Abstract:

Police forces across the UK have very varying requirements for undercover officers. In some cases, an officer may only undertake undercover work very rarely, while in other cases officers are involved in this type of work almost full-time. The most intensive training is given to officers who are involved in high-risk, long-term operations where they need to assume a false identity. This type of work can be extremely stressful, and training officers and police psychologists recognize that constant support and debriefing is required.

Invisible poor in England's playground

Article Abstract:

The county of Cornwall, England, has a very positive image, being associated with holiday resorts and beautiful countryside. In fact, its residents face significant financial challenges, as the county's traditional industries have declined and tourism remains seasonal. Many of the county's poor residents suffer from depression and feelings of isolation, and they must budget very carefully, avoiding purchasing items many people in other parts of the country take for granted.
