Made-up for television

Article Abstract:

Working on the soap opera 'Emmerdale' provided very valuable experience for situation comedy writing, according to Tim Dynevor. His first solo project, 'Slap! - Love Lies and Lipstick,' is to be broadcast shortly on Channel 4. He does not regard himself as being able to write jokes, and feels that the humour in his situation comedy comes from the characters, and specifically the people these characters pretend to be. He believes that his work is not traditional situation comedy. It has more than one storyline, and its plot moves towards a clear climax.

Redmond's just taking Brookside back to its roots. Honest

Article Abstract:

The launch of a feature length video of Channel 4 soap opera 'Brookside' is not merely a cynical marketing ploy, according to Phil Redmond, who created the soap opera. He regards the video more as a reward for loyal viewers. He emphasizes that he has great respect for the soap opera's audiences, and will therefore ensure that the action shown on the video will not appear in the television version of the show until at least 2000. He is aware of commercial pressures to boost ratings, but will not compromise on quality.
