Marlene: the angel and after

Article Abstract:

Marlene Dietrich became famous when the Hollywood director Josef von Sternberg directed her in the leading role in 'The Blue Angel.' He controlled her appearance and she obeyed and idolized him. The film developed into a portrayal of Marlene's character rather than Lola Lola's. Its American release was delayed until after a more glamorous film, 'Morocco' to create a more romantic image for her. Marlene believed in free love and had several intense affairs. Von Sternberg, Gary Cooper and Maurice Chevalier were among her lovers.

Form follows food

Article Abstract:

The southern island of Kyushu in Japan is famous for the striking pottery fashioned from the clay dug out of mountains by local artists in a town called Karatsu. In Japan, the vessel is as integral to eating as the ingredients themselves where the plates do not match one another but the food they hold and traditionally, much of the surface of these dishes remains empty so that diners can appreciate their beauty.
