The vast majority of Americans have welcomed the decision to sentence Timothy McVeigh to death for the Oklahoma City bombing in Apr 1995, in which 168 people died. The jury's verdict was unanimous, but there will be appeals, and his execution will therefore be delayed for a considerable time. Both the defence and prosecution lawyers placed the jurors under great emotional pressure, and the defence offered many reasons why McVeigh should not be sentenced to death. However, the testimonies of victims and their families proved most influential.
