Menswear retailing

Article Abstract:

Consumer expenditure on menswear in 1998 is estimated to have reached 6.57 billion pounds sterling, up 19% from 5.52 billion pounds sterling in 1993. The menswear market is more responsive to economic conditions that womanswear, partly because men have less interest in clothes and also because they are more willing to postpone major purchases if times are difficult. Menswear purchasing is age-related, with younger men spending more than older men. The menswear market is forecast to rise from 6.94 billion pounds sterling in 1999 to 7.67 billion pounds sterling by 2002.
