Don't feel sorry for the airlines - they're an industry like any other

Article Abstract:

Airlines are frequently seen as symbols of national power and pride. In fact, they are simply the same as other industries, as reflected in their financial difficulties since the terrorist attacks in the US.

Cut-price airlines cry 'foul' to BA

Article Abstract:

Cut-price airlines Ryanair and EasyJet have been very successful in attracting travellers away from British Airways (BA). This has prompted BA to consider establishing a low-cost airline of its own, with a decision to be made by the end of 1997. This possibility has been greeted with concern by EasyJet, which feels that it could be negatively affected at a vital stage in its development. In contrast, Ryanair feels that BA itself would be most negatively affected if it were to create a low-cost airline.

Gloves off in the battle for the skies

Article Abstract:

The success of Hot Air, Virgin Atlantic's quarterly in-flight magazine, has made other airlines realize that in-flight magazines are an area of service in which they must try to be competitive. British Airways has responded by ravamping its own in-flight magazine, High Life. This has proved very difficult, as sensitive subjects such as politics and religion must be avoided if the airline is not to endanger landing rights in any part of the world.
