Investment banks face huge lay-offs as downturn bites

The slump in the number of acquisitions, mergers and stock market flotations in the UK in 2001 is forcing investment banks to lay off staff. This situation is unlikely to improve in the near future.

Banks in backup centres getting back to business

Article Abstract:

Wall Street investment banks have been able to begin functioning again very quickly after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York, NY, because they have the highest quality backup systems. The key element of these systems is backup trading floors, which are empty but ready to function.

Merrill could face raft of copycat claims after settling out of court

Article Abstract:

An out-of-court settlement has been reached in the legal battle between Merrill Lynch and Unilever over the management of the latter's pension fund. It is thought that Merrill will pay 75 million pounds sterling to Unilever in return for the legal action being dropped.
