Virgin to run fast trains to Paris

Article Abstract:

Planned new high speed rail services between the UK regions and the French capital Paris could be being operated from January 1999 onwards by the UK rail company Virgin. The Virgin plans include leasing seven Eurostar trains and running 5 services to both Brussels and Paris on a daily basis from a new international hub at Watford in North London. Fares for the North East of England to the continent would be around GB 89. The plan would put Virgin in competition with the rail services from Waterloo to the Continent being operated by British Airways.
