Murdoch lands a plum role ahead of the election

Article Abstract:

There is considerable controversy surrounding the agreement reached between Australian prime minister Paul Keating and media magnate Rupert Murdoch to allow the construction of a film studio in Sydney for film production company 20th Century Fox, owned by Murdoch's News Corporation. Critics are concerned both about the chosen site, at the Sydney showgrounds, and about how the Labour government has done business with Murdoch. This issue will become increasingly sensitive if the government calls an election.

Australia accused of genocide against aborigines

Article Abstract:

The Australian government has been caused great embarrassment by a report which indicates that up to 100,000 Aboriginal children were removed from their parents and placed in white foster homes between 1910 and 1970. These children were the victims of extensive emotional abuse, and some were also physically and sexually abused by the white officials and foster parents. The report accuses the governments concerned of genocide and crimes against humanity.
