My night with Reg Dwight

Article Abstract:

Playwright David Farr feels that 'Elton John's Glasses' is his most deliberately populist work so far. He rejects the view that the play was inspired by macho culture, and does not feel that it is even really about football. He believes that the play focuses on self-deception, obsession and depression. The play combines British social realism with the expressionistic mainland European drama introduced by Farr in his capacity as artistic director of the Gate Theatre, a position he is now giving up.

Outed: Nigel Planer is a poet

Article Abstract:

Comedian Nigel Planer has been writing poetry for many years, but has only recently decided to make his poems public. This is because he has always been so closely linked with alternative comedy, which is regarded as being far removed from poetry. Comedians have generally made fun of poets, so it was very hard for him to admit to writing poetry. However, he has recently experienced many changes in his life, and feels that he now has the confidence to reveal the other side of his writing.

This clown is nobody's fool

Article Abstract:

Clowning is about locating your most put-upon inner fool, rather than your inner child, according to Brazilian clown Angela de Castro. She believes that all her clowns come from a need to say something. The character she plays in her new show, 'The Gift,' comes from her need to be romantic. She had to tone down her natural character to fit into UK society, but creating a clown has allowed her to be what she could not be in real life.
