NHS goes abroad to buy cheap drugs

Article Abstract:

With the aim of reducing the annual drugs bill of the NHS which reaches G 5bn, the NHS has begun to source its drugs from overseas, in so-called parallel import deals, making savings of as much 40% on the same drugs supplied by UK drugs companies. Although to date overseas purchases by NHS trusts have been on an ad hoc basis if they became widespread, the accord between the government and UK drugs companies could collapse. Glaxo Wellcome claims that parallel imports are costing it tens of millions of pounds a year already.
