Name change as Park grows

Article Abstract:

Park Foods, principally a door-to-door seller of food hampers, plans to become known as Park Group in an attempt to search for new markets. Its new home credit service which makes small loans and collects payments door-to-door will become nationally available from September. The group will also open a GB 2.5mn telephone-based data management business centre to oversee the marketing and loyalty operation, Handling Solutions. Park Foods in the year to March 31st saw group profits drop 30% to GB 6.67mn after an unsuccessful diversification into a fried potato snack called Spuddles.

Lack of skills forces change in training

Article Abstract:

Evidence of greater UK employment flexibility has emerged in a recent survey of 671 firms by the Confederation of British Industry, which found that 50% used temporary staff. Also an increase in homeworking was planned by 42% of service companies, while 60% of firms decided pay levels by using skills or competency schemes. Another finding in the survey was that a shortage of qualified potential recruits was reported by 71% of companies and over 50% said that their production levels has been hit by a shortage of skilled staff.

A 36% rise in membership and the launch of its own range of goods has helped the company achieve a 139% rise in profits.
