New politics, real politik

Article Abstract:

Germany's Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg is bringing a piece entitled 'Zero Hour or The Art of Public Service' to the forthcoming London International Festival of Theatre. Written by Christoph Marthaler, this shows politicians preparing to campaign in public. The text is taken from real-life speeches made by pre- and post-war German politicians, and presents a deep message about Germany underneath its humorous exterior. In particular, it highlights Germany's inability to accept its communal guilt.

He was a different child

Article Abstract:

Parents whose child is diagnosed as being autistic can often feel that the child they knew died at the point of diagnosis, according to actor and playwright Daniel Hill. They then have to come to terms with having a child whom they love just as much but who is different. Autistic children are often extremely intelligent, but they are unable to communicate effectively. It is now possible to have intensive treatment, but this takes over family life completely.
