Newcomers create a more youthful Cabinet

Article Abstract:

The new post-election Cabinet 1992 includes five newcomers, two of whom are women: Gillian Shephard, Secretary of State for Employment and Virginia Bottomley, Secretary of State for Health. The new men are Michael Portillo, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, John Patten, Secretary of State for Education and Sir Patrick Mayhew, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Brief biographies of these five are given.
