Eco-terrorists burn ski resort

Article Abstract:

The Earth Liberation Front has admitted responsibility for a number of arson attacks in the ski resort of Vail, CO. The damage is estimated at $12 million. The group is protesting against plans for further development at the resort, which it believes will endanger the local lynx population. Problems at Vail are a reflection of wider difficulties at ski resorts, where rapid expansion has taken place and local people are being pushed out.

A glimmer at the end of the tunnel

Article Abstract:

The ski resort of Chamonix, France, has suffered a 20% fall in income since the Mont Blanc tunnel, which connects it with the Aosta Valley in Italy, was shut following a fire in Mar 1999. However, not everybody is looking forward to the tunnel being reopened in early 2002, as they feel that Chamonix has benefited from a fall in traffic volumes.
