No pipes, no drums on this long march. Just Protestant anger and helplessness

Article Abstract:

The 100 Protestants who are taking part in The Long March, covering 120 miles from Londonderry, Northern Ireland, to Portadown, Northern Ireland, are protesting about the fact that Catholic terrorists are being released from prison without any weapons being surrendered. The marchers are determined to be peaceful, and have only one civil rights banner and no pipes or drums. However, The Long March is rapidly becoming a focus for Orange Order sentiment.

So near to a deal, yet so far

Article Abstract:

It remains uncertain whether the peace talks in Northern Ireland will lead to an agreement. Sinn Fein has presented proposals that would involve full IRA decommissioning within a year, but the Ulster Unionists continue to take a tough line. The official spokesman for UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has stated that he believes an agreement is possible. Blair has sought to reassure Unionists that guarantees will be put in place to ensure that republicans adhere to commitments on decommissioning.
