No place for the cynical

Article Abstract:

Memorial Day is celebrated in the US, and public transportation is empty in New York. The Fourth of July and Memorial Day are seen as two occasions when Americans have a sense of community. There are comparisons with England, where the time when people go outside as a community is Guy Fawkes, after dark. The British may feel dubious about an emphasis on community in the US where school shootings and other tragedies have occurred. Yet the parades in the US held on Memorial Day do show an optimism about community.

E.X.H.U.M.E.D

Article Abstract:

Three of the daughters of country singer Tammy Wynette, who died on Apr 6, 1998, at the age of only 55, have filed a wrongful death suit against George Richey, Wynette's last and fifth husband and personal manager, and Dr Wallis Marsh, her doctor. It is alleged that Richey and Marsh mis-handled Wynette's care over many years and that they consciously enabled her to remain addicted to pain-killing narcotics. This case has begun to split the country music industry.

Article Abstract:

Internet stocks are currently attracting very strong interest from investors, even though some Internet companies have yet to make a profit. This sector is attracting investors largely because the Internet is regarded as having considerable potential for growth, particularly for online retailing. Yahoo!, Excite, Infoseek and Lycos are attracting particular attention from investors because they are Internet portals.
