Not la dolce vita

Article Abstract:

Ruth Sandberg was arrested when on holiday in northern Italy in Apr 1998, and was later convicted for smuggling 150kg of cocaine into the country during an earlier time period when she was living in Naples, Italy. She is now serving an 11-year sentence in an Italian maximum security prison. Italian police failed to follow official procedures in handling her detention and trial, particularly in not ensuring that she could attend her trial to defend herself, and this may mean that she will receive a second opportunity to appeal.

La dolce vita is finally over

Article Abstract:

The Italian political party system is disintegrating since the people challenged its corruption because of the end of the Cold War. Regional governments vary from inefficient to creative. Higher voter turnout and greater membership of local societies tend to produce successful regions such as Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. Research shows that institutional history develops slowly. Change depends on local alterations rather than national decisions.

La Dolce Musto (ouch)

Article Abstract:

Michael Musto, writer of the downtown high life column 'La Dolce Musto' in 'Village Voice,' the New York weekly newspaper, has gained a reputation for being critical of others and outrageous in his appearance. His presence is guaranteed to make any event a social success, and he has a great influence over what it considered to be fashionable. In recent years, a more serious note has entered his column, as he talks of HIV issues and gay rights.
