Now that the war is over, we've still Europe to fight

Article Abstract:

The conflict between the UK and France over the French ban on imports of beef from the UK can be seen as part of a wider battle in the UK over the extent of integration with the European Union. How to manage relations with Europe is now the key issue at the centre of UK politics. The only true ideological division between the Labour and Conservative parties is what constitutes the national interest and how closely this is in alignment with a Europe seeking to establish closer links through economic and monetary union.

Mrs Thatcher torments the left from beyond her political grave

Article Abstract:

Marxism Today magazine seems to be haunted by former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. In the eyes of the magazine's contributors, Thatcher is eternally in power, while current Prime Minister Tony Blair is presented as her illegitimate son. Thatcherism is presented as a creed only slightly less significant in world history than Christianity, while the contributors do not feel at ease with a popular moderate Labour government.
