Article Abstract:

The heads of many leading US companies are becoming extremely well known figures in their own right. This is particularly the case with Microsoft's Bill Gates, who has succeeded in capturing the public imagination despite his sometimes rather strange behaviour and appearance. He has managed to become the richest man in the US, worth around $40 billion, and has recently built a house worth a reported $50 million. He now devotes up to 15% of his time to media relations.
