The English patent

Article Abstract:

British inventions have been greatly underutilized by industry and commerce in the past. The Economic and Social Research Council is paying for a study into Britain's commercial use of inventions since 1949. Researchers based at Edinburgh University, Scotland, will review the work of the National Research Development Corporation and the British Technology Group. However, Britain has achieved great commercial success recently in some disciplines such as pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Off their cybertrolley

Article Abstract:

Tesco is currently testing its Tesco Direct Internet home shopping service. This allows people to select via their computer from a wide range of goods sold through normal Tesco outlets. The trial version is rather difficult to use, as it contains no illustrations of the products available and the search tool often brings up completely irrelevant items. There is a 5 pounds sterling delivery charge, and delivery can take several days after the order has been despatched.
