Passing before their eyes, one by one, were the racist thugs they believed killed their son, Stephen

Article Abstract:

The public inquiry into the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence has begun questioning the five young men who are believed to have been responsible for the crime. This stage of the inquiry has attracted a great deal of media and public attention, with particular protests from anti-racist groups. The five men, who remain innocent in the eyes of the law, were all identified as the killers by 26 separate police informants in the first two weeks after the murder. However, they are not convicted because the investigation was mishandled.

'I feel so sorry for the killers of my son.' (public inquiry into murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence)(includes timetable of events)

Article Abstract:

Neville Lawrence, whose son Stephen was murdered by violent racists, believes that the public inquiry into his son's death has largely achieved what his family had hoped for. He and his wife have had to hear some very painful things during the course of the inquiry, but they feel that it has filled in some gaps in the information they had previously. They found it very difficult to accept that those believed to be responsible for their son's death could simply deny any involvement.

How the police murdered justice

Article Abstract:

The public inquiry into the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence in 1993 has placed the police handling of the investigation of this crime under close scrutiny. It has emerged that there were examples of great incompetence at all levels of the Metropolitan Police, with many opportunities being missed and a great deal of key information being ignored. The inquiry is certain to conclude that racism undermined the handling of the investigation.
