Pay the piper, call the tune

Article Abstract:

The Institutional Shareholders' Committee has published a document which could radically alter the relationship between company managements and shareholders. 'The Responsibilities of Institutional Shareholders in the UK' seeks greater communication between shareholders and management on difficult company problems and on shareholders' interests. If the reorganisation is overseen closely and carefully these practices should benefit both parties, but there are criticisms of the scheme because of the possible leak to shareholders of insider information.

He's the man they call the digital Nostradamus

Article Abstract:

Nicholas Negroponte, the founder and director of the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has become well known for making predictions about future technological developments. He believes that video stores, the telephone and the fax machine will become obsolete within a few years, and even sees CD-rom as an interim technology which will soon become outdated. His predictions may seem rather extreme at present, but it is quite possible that he will be proved right.

Turn on, tune in to Radio Taliban

Article Abstract:

Taliban soldiers have taken over complete control of the government radio station in Kabul, Afghanistan. They are ensuring that its output meets the strict guidelines which Taliban leaders have set down. These include avoiding all forms of entertainment, including music and singing, and highlighting the success of the Taliban army against opposing former government forces. The residents of Kabul now find the radio station's output extremely tedious.
