Perpetual salad daze

Article Abstract:

Growing salad vegetables such as lettuce and spinach can be very rewarding. Real spinach, as distinct from perpetual spinach, grows best in cool conditions. It must be watered a great deal while it is growing, but needs no water during cooking. Endive should not be planted before May. However, if sown in succession between May and August, it will produce crops until Christmas. Successional sowing is a very attractive concept, but will only be successful if the weather is favourable.

More bark and less bite

Article Abstract:

In Europe and the US wooden decking from northern redwood or western red cedar is used for patios. The warmth and grain patterning of the wood create a softer environment. It may be stained. Wooden decking can also be used for paths, in planks rather than squares. It is easier to obtain a smooth surface than with concrete slabs. Decking rests on an underpinning of wooden joists. Wood can also be used for path and lawn edging and for raised beds.

And the winner is ...

Article Abstract:

It is wise to select houseplants which have plenty of green foliage, as these will always make a room look more attractive. The leafy varieties of begonia are particularly appropriate, as they are able to withstand cool conditions where light is poor. Begonias also have a positive effect on the atmosphere, as they have a high transpiration rate and can therefore remove damaging elements from the atmosphere rapidly.
