Picture of unity thrills German art world

Article Abstract:

The new Gemaldegalerie in Berlin, Germany, houses 1,000 Old Masters. The collection is extremely diverse, and covers all significant aspects of European art until 1800. The works include a 15th-century altar-piece entitled 'Mary's Revelation,' attributed to a painter described as Paolo Schiavo or Paolo di Stefano. The centre panel of this work was stored in a salt mine in Thuringia during the second world war, while the side panels remained on Museum Island in Berlin, Germany. The panels have only recently been reunited.

Mother of all hijackers?

Article Abstract:

Monika Haas is soon to stand trial for her part in the Red Army Faction's 1977 campaign of terror, which included the murder of industrialist Hans-Martin Schleyer and the hijacking of a Lufthansa plane on a flight from Majorca. It is claimed that she was formerly a courier for a Palestinian commando unit, and there seems to be a strong case against her. Until recently, she was leading a very quiet life and had not come to the attention of the authorities.
