Platform6: John Tusa appears to believe that he, not John Birt, should be running the BBC

Article Abstract:

The BBC's World Service operation was certainly very successful during the period when John Tusa was its managing director, between 1986 and 1992. However, this does not necessarily mean that Tusa should now be running the BBC, rather than John Birt, as Tusa seems to believe. The two men have very different personalities, but both seem to lack any self-doubt. Some observers believe that Tusa is mistaken in allowing his animosity towards Birt to be expressed in his continued support for the Save the World Service campaign.

Roger Luard

Article Abstract:

Roger Luard was a United Kingdom TV executive who developed Flextech, an oil services concern, into a supplier of pay-TV channels, the first independent company of this kind in the UK. He started work at Flextech in 1986 and the company initially invested in cable operations. Luard helped in a successful deal involving the merger of TCI's UK operations with Flextech. This merger, which took place in 1994, launched Flextech in its modern form. Strategy and deals interested him more than underlying operations, and attitude that sometimes led to frustration for colleagues.
